Introduction from the GSL

Welcome to the 3rd Ashford (St. Matthews) Scout Group which is part of Spelthorne District. If you are a visitor to our group, I hope you enjoy browsing through our website and learning more about what we get up to! If you are a parent or member of our group, you will also find lots of useful information and reports within our parents' section.

The Group was created in 1962 and has been meeting at Jaggin Base from 1972 when it was built. I am pleased to be able to support the Group as GSL after first joining as a Venture Scout, some years ago now.

As a group we have a clear determination that Scouting must be active and fun. To this end we are in the middle of a programme of training and updating to ensure we have a effective base to give our members the best experiences. The Group is growing at an impressive rate as word gets around that we are out and about.

The pictures you can see here are from our Group Camp held on the 16th of September 2011. This followed a district Camp for Cubs just before the summer break. Our newer leaders are now beginning their training to become accredited mountain leaders or Kyaking instructors. We have plans for other leaders to obtain qualifications for other outdoor pursuits such as Sailing.

We are a family friendly group and when young people join us, so do their families. We aim to include parents in as much as possible whether its helping out at weekly meetings, coming along to our annual family camp or just helping out with a bit of DIY at our Headquarters. Many of our adult leaders are also parents!

We aim to make life an adventure for all of our members. If you think you would like to join that adventure, why not get in touch.
